Understanding mnrf — microneedling radiofrequency
Insulated needles pass through the epidermis and release radiofrequency energy at a set depth, so heating occurs where remodelling is wanted while the skin surface is comparatively protected.
That surface protection is why MNRF is often preferred in deeper skin tones, where ablative resurfacing carries a higher pigmentation risk. Needle depth is adjusted by facial zone.
MNRF suits acne scarring, enlarged pores and early laxity. As with all collagen procedures, improvement accumulates across sessions and continues for months after the last one.
This may suit you if
- Acne scars, particularly with associated laxity
- Enlarged pores and uneven texture
- Early skin laxity on the face or neck
- Skin types at higher risk of pigmentation with ablative lasers
What happens at the clinic
- 1
Assessment
Scar type, skin thickness and laxity are assessed, and depths are planned zone by zone.
- 2
Numbing
Topical anaesthetic is applied for 45 to 60 minutes before treatment.
- 3
Treatment passes
The handpiece is applied in a systematic pattern with depth and energy adjusted by area. Deep warmth is felt during treatment.
- 4
Recovery and next session
Soothing care and sun protection are applied; the next session is scheduled four to six weeks later.
Aftercare
- Bland cleanser and moisturiser for 48 hours
- No makeup for 24 hours where possible
- Daily sun protection throughout the course
- Restart actives only when advised
Possible side effects
- Redness, swelling and pinpoint marks in the first days
- Temporary pigmentation, particularly without sun protection
- Rarely, small burns or tracking marks if settings are inappropriate
- Variable response depending on scar type
