Understanding arms & legs laser hair reduction
Arms and legs have larger surface areas but relatively straightforward hair characteristics, so results are often visible early in the course. Regrowth between sessions becomes progressively finer and patchier.
Limb hair grows more slowly than facial hair, so sessions are spaced further apart. Treating too frequently does not speed up results, because fewer follicles will be in the growth phase.
Sun exposure matters — recently tanned skin increases the risk of pigment changes, so sessions may be rescheduled after a holiday or sustained sun exposure.
This may suit you if
- Regular waxing or shaving of arms and legs
- Ingrown hairs on the legs
- Patients wanting large-area treatment with predictable response
What happens at the clinic
- 1
Assessment
Skin tone, recent sun exposure and hair characteristics are assessed, and half or full limb treatment is planned.
- 2
Shaving and cooling
Areas are shaved beforehand; cooling is used throughout to protect the skin surface.
- 3
Systematic passes
The limb is treated section by section to ensure even coverage without overlap gaps.
- 4
Schedule
The next session is scheduled six to eight weeks later, in line with limb hair growth cycles.
Aftercare
- Avoid sun exposure and use sunscreen on treated areas
- No waxing, threading or plucking between sessions — shave instead
- Skip sauna, steam, swimming and hot baths for 48 hours
- Avoid scrubs, retinoids and perfumed products on treated skin for a few days
Possible side effects
- Redness and mild swelling around follicles for a few hours
- Temporary darkening or lightening of the skin, more likely in deeper skin tones
- Rare blistering or burns if settings or aftercare are inappropriate
- Incomplete reduction where hair is light, fine or hormonally driven
