Understanding hydra facial
The treatment works in stages — cleansing and exfoliation, a mild acid loosening step, suction-assisted extraction of congestion, and infusion of hydrating and antioxidant serums.
Because it is gentle and non-ablative, it suits most skin types and can be done close to an event. It is a maintenance and hydration treatment, not a treatment for active inflammatory acne or pigmentation.
Performed under dermatologist supervision, serums are selected for your skin rather than applied from a fixed menu, and any underlying condition is identified rather than covered over.
This may suit you if
- Dull, dehydrated or tired-looking skin
- Congestion, blackheads and rough texture
- Maintenance between medical treatments
- Pre-event preparation with a week's margin
What happens at the clinic
- 1
Skin assessment
Your skin is examined and serums are selected for your type and concern.
- 2
Cleanse and exfoliate
Surface debris and dead cells are removed with the handpiece and a mild exfoliating solution.
- 3
Extract and hydrate
Gentle suction clears congestion, then hydrating and antioxidant serums are infused.
- 4
Protect
Sunscreen is applied and home care advice is given. You can return to normal activity immediately.
Aftercare
- Avoid makeup for a few hours if possible
- Skip sauna, steam and heavy workouts for the rest of the day
- Use sunscreen daily
- Avoid strong actives for 24 hours
Possible side effects
- Transient redness or sensitivity
- Temporary purging of congestion in some skin
- Not a treatment for active inflammatory acne, which needs medical management
