Understanding hair mesotherapy
Mesotherapy places small volumes of solution into the superficial scalp, close to the follicles. The intention is to improve the local environment around miniaturising follicles and support other treatment.
The blend is chosen by the dermatologist for your presentation; it is not a fixed cocktail. What goes in, and why, is explained to you before the first session.
Like other procedural hair therapies, it supports a medical plan rather than replacing it, and results vary between individuals.
This may suit you if
- Diffuse thinning and reduced hair density
- Patients on medical treatment who want additional in-clinic support
- Those who prefer very fine, superficial injections
What happens at the clinic
- 1
Assessment
Scalp condition and hair loss pattern are examined, and the appropriate solution is selected.
- 2
Numbing
Surface anaesthesia is applied where needed; the needles used are very fine.
- 3
Micro-injections
Small volumes are injected across the scalp in a grid. Sessions usually take 20 to 30 minutes.
- 4
Course and taper
Sessions begin at shorter intervals and are gradually spaced out as the scalp responds.
Aftercare
- Avoid washing the hair for the rest of the day
- Skip sauna, steam and swimming for 48 hours
- Avoid chemical hair services for several days
- Continue prescribed medical treatment
Possible side effects
- Tenderness, redness or small bruises at injection points
- Allergic reaction to a component — rare, and history is checked first
- Infection — uncommon with sterile technique
- Variable response between individuals
