Understanding skin tightening
Controlled heating of the dermis triggers an immediate tightening of existing collagen and a slower remodelling process that continues for several months afterwards. The visible change is therefore gradual rather than immediate.
It is best suited to mild to moderate laxity — early jowling, a softening jawline, or crepey texture. Significant sagging is beyond what any non-surgical device can meaningfully address, and you will be told that plainly.
Because results build with each session, a course is planned rather than a single appointment, and final assessment is made a few months after the last session.
This may suit you if
- Early laxity along the jawline or cheeks
- Crepey texture on the face or neck
- Patients wanting gradual change without surgery
- Those who have realistic expectations about the degree of lift
What happens at the clinic
- 1
Assessment
The degree and type of laxity are assessed, and suitability for a non-surgical approach is discussed honestly.
- 2
Preparation
Topical anaesthesia is applied where needed, depending on the device and depth used.
- 3
Treatment
Energy is delivered in a systematic pattern with monitored settings. Most patients feel deep warmth.
- 4
Course and review
Sessions are repeated at four to six week intervals, with final assessment a few months after the course.
Aftercare
- Gentle cleansing and moisturising for 48 hours
- Daily sun protection throughout the course
- Avoid sauna, steam and heavy workouts for 24 hours
- Allow the full remodelling period before judging results
Possible side effects
- Redness, swelling and tenderness for a day or two
- Temporary pigmentation, more likely in deeper skin tones
- Rarely, burns if settings are inappropriate
- Limited benefit in significant laxity
