Understanding fine lines treatment
Fine lines differ from deep wrinkles. They often reflect dehydration and early collagen loss rather than established muscle folding, which is why they respond well to skin-quality treatment before injectables are needed.
Ultraviolet exposure is the dominant modifiable factor. Daily sun protection does more for fine lines over a year than most procedures do in a session, which is why it is discussed properly here.
Where treatment is added, collagen-stimulating procedures such as microneedling, MNRF or gentle resurfacing are typical, spaced across several sessions.
This may suit you if
- Fine crepey lines around the eyes or mouth
- Early photoageing with dull, dehydrated skin
- Patients in their late twenties to forties wanting preventive care
- Those who prefer to avoid injectables initially
What happens at the clinic
- 1
Skin assessment
Hydration, texture, sun damage and existing routine are assessed, and unnecessary products are removed from the routine.
- 2
Corrective routine
A retinoid or similar agent, an appropriate moisturiser and daily sunscreen are prescribed.
- 3
In-clinic course
Microneedling, mesotherapy or light resurfacing is scheduled where it will add value.
- 4
Review
Progress is reviewed with photographs at six to eight week intervals.
Aftercare
- Daily broad-spectrum sunscreen, reapplied through the day
- Consistent use of prescribed topicals, introduced gradually
- Avoid harsh scrubbing and over-exfoliation
- Maintain adequate hydration and sleep
Possible side effects
- Irritation or peeling while the skin adjusts to a retinoid
- Temporary redness after procedures
- Post-inflammatory pigmentation if sun protection is neglected
